Metaphor. Personification. Simile. Hyperbole even! What are they all? Figures Of Speech! Everyone uses figures of speech to improve their writing. Whether it be giving a narrative an umph, emphasizing writing, or whatever your doing, it's bound to have some form of figurative language. Hyperbole makes things seem much bigger than they really are. It is often seen as an exaggeration that adds a bit of humor to a story. The use of metaphor dosen't use like or as and compares two things that are not alike and make they alike. Similes use like or as and is two things that are compared that are not really the same, but are used to make a point about each other. Personification gives an inanimate object the qualities of a living thing. There are many more but that's all for today folks.
Examples: Simile: I like to swim. I'm a duck! Metaphor: Well, you do walk like one. Hyperbole: I am at least a million times prettier than all of the other princesses in the world. Personification: My hair gently kisses my forehead. My dress dances in the wind.

your source. Then depending the date you cite it. If you don't know how to cite something you could just look it up or go to this website in the hyperlink. It's really easy, you just put if it's a book, website, blog, etc. Then you put the style you want it cited such as APA, Harvard, MLA, etc. And bam your done. Well not quite, then you copy and past the cited source to your word processor. If you have multiple cited sources, then you put them in alphabetical order. And if your citation takes up more than one line, then each line you indent 5 spaces.
Example: Create PDF files quickly and easily!. (2016). 1st ed. [ebook] pp.2-4. Available at: hhhhhhttp://www.pdf995.com/samples/pdf.pdf [Accessed 6 Oct. 2016]. And if you have one that goes to 3 or 4 lines then on the 3rd you indent 10 times and the 4th indents 15. Also keep in mind that it has to bee double-spaced and that you begin each entry justified left without skipping lines betweeen entries and yeah now you are ready to face and ace citations! This week in English I learned how to do appositives better, as in seeing if it's restrictive or non restrictive. If there's more information then more commas. But to differentiate them, ask yourself, is the information essential or extra. If it's essential, then you need it to make sense. it. If it's extra, then it'll make sense if you take it away.
Nonrestrictive Ex. Pizza, which most people love, is not very healthy. which most people love is the appositive because it can be taken away. Restrictive Ex. The musician Melanie Martinez will come to Los Angeles. Melanie Martinez is the the appositive because it restricts the general term "musician". *Picture has Hyper Link
Last Friday, September 2, 2016, Hurricane Hermine targeted the popular summer spot known as Florida. Strong winds powered through the northwestern coast, drowning communities in range with about 8 feet of water. It's been 11 years since Florida was last attacked by a hurricane. The hurricane itself calmed down a bit afterwards, turning into a regular tropical storm as it blew it's way through southern Georgia and the Carolinas. It then moved into the Atlantic ocean, sticking close to the coast. Officials closed beaches as far up as New York as precautions. Even though the storm didn't cause as much damage than predicted, it's just a reminder that we're at the peak of hurricane of hurricane season. Hurricanes form over oceans and when they reach land, they can deal a great deal of damage. With this hurricane reaching up to 95 mph in wind speeds, considering this was only a category 1 storm. But even as a category 1, it can flood houses and blow signs over. They can sweep water over land, drowning homes, schools, and businesses in it's wake. For the next two months, meteorologists will be looking out for storms so they can warn cities 5 days before hand. So far this year there has been 4 hurricanes and 8 tropical storms. This intrigues me because how can one season cause so much destruction. It's kinda interesting how they are formed, when cool, dense air swirls together with warm, moist air over sea. With high wind speeds combined with flooding waters, they deal oh so much damage with a kind of beauty in it. But even then, this is a evil force of nature and they are always gonna happen, we just need to adapt to withstand them. |
