Lamb to the Slaughter is about Mary Maloney. When he husband come home one day, acting strangely, she offers to help. Patrick, her husband, done with her helping confesses to her that he loves someone else and leaving her. But then also explains that he will send money, as if that makes the situation any better.
In a state of confusion and betrayal, she heads down to the ice box and grabs a lamb leg to make dinner even when he asked her not to. She finds him facing towards the window and a quick train of thought she slams the lamb leg on his head. A second or two passed before he tumbled to the floor stone dead. Upon realizing her crime, Mary cries but then goes about making it as if she done nothing wrong due to charges she'll face. She puts the lamb leg in the oven and dresses herself up to go to the grocer for vegetables. Upon the walk back to her home, realization dawns on her again as real non fake tears surface to her eyes again. Soon enough she called the police to investigate the murder. Upon hours and hours searching the cops came up empty-handed. Mary then claims that since they've been searching for so long, that Patrick would've wanted them to eat the dinner. After serving them Mary excuses herself to the next room but still listens in on the cops conversation. And soon laughs to herself when one of the cops claim, "Personally, i think it's...right under our noses." |
